In the development and utilization of geothermal resources, geothermal wells serve as key heat collection points, and the quality and stability of their piping systems are crucial. Geothermal well piping must withstand high temperatures, high pressures, and highly corrosive fluids deep within the Earth. To ensure long-term, stable operation, the use of high-performance, high-temperature, and corrosion-resistant piping materials is crucial.
To meet the customer's challenging requirement of "no butt welds throughout the process," MTSCO and SiRi's quickly assembled a dedicated team. Using 100% laser welding technology, they successfully produced over 2,000 meters of Alloy 625 coiled tubing, meeting the stringent requirements of high-temperature, high-pressure, and highly corrosive environments such as geothermal wells.
Through precision laser welding technology, the MTSCO & SiRi team achieved the production of extremely long pipe lengths without butt welds, ensuring highly consistent and reliable welds. Laser welding uses a high-precision laser beam to melt and join metals, eliminating common defects in weld joints with traditional welding methods, such as porosity and cracks. Laser welding also precisely controls heat input, preventing material deformation caused by high temperatures, which is crucial for crack-prone materials like Alloy 625.
During this project, MTSCO & SiRi optimized the welding process multiple times and conducted rigorous quality inspections to ensure that each coil passed the full ASTM A704 testing, guaranteeing long-term stability in high-temperature and high-pressure environments. ASTM A704 is an international standard that specifies the performance requirements for pipes under conditions such as high temperatures, highly corrosive media, and mechanical stress, ensuring product reliability and durability.
For complex applications like geothermal wells, Alloy 625 coils demonstrate excellent high-temperature and corrosion resistance, enabling stable operation in extreme environments. The fluids in geothermal wells are not only extremely hot but also highly mineralized and corrosive, requiring the pipes to withstand sustained high temperatures, pressures, and corrosive environments. The technological breakthroughs achieved by MTSCO & SiRi on this project not only met the client's specific needs but also advanced coiled tubing welding technology, providing a more reliable solution for geothermal wells and similar environments.
